Northern Illinois Hydropower, LLC

Northern Illinois Hydropower LLC (NIH) is an alternative energy developer. Currently, we are preparing to license both the Brandon Road Hydroelectric Project, (FERC Project No. 12717) located on the Illinois Waterway in Will County, Illinois, and Dresden Island Hydroelectric Project, (FERC Project No. 12626) located on the Illinois Waterway in Grundy County, Illinois. Licensing is a multi-year, mandatory federal process governed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The FERC license will determine operations and guide the management of the projects and the resources potentially affected by the project’s operations for the next 30 to 50 years. This website provides public information regarding the licensing of these two hydroelectric projects including information related to upcoming licensing activities as well as archiving information pertaining to the licensing process. Other information regarding the licensing of the two facilities may be found on FERC’s website ( by following the directions for eLibrary and referencing the project numbers.

The FERC licensing process for the Project will involve a variety of stakeholders, including state and federal resource agencies, state and local government, non-governmental organizations ("NGOs"), and other interested participants. Together with NIH, these stakeholders will work to address the operational, economic, and environmental issues associated with a license for the Project.

NIH applied to FERC and received preliminary permits to undertake site review and development of the two projects. FERC issued the preliminary permit for Dresden Island April 12, 2006 and the preliminary permit for Brandon Road November 21, 2006. NIH filed a License Application for Dresden Island on March 31, 2009 and a Final License Application for Brandon Road on May 27, 2009.
